Depending on which blend of Kimberley’s Own Granola you decide to enjoy, here are some of the benefits of our ingredients:

Seeing PURE Oats are the main ingredient throughout all of my blends, I thought it would be best to start here.

PURE Oats-When looking for a wheat/gluten free oat based granola, the key word on the ingredient list is PURE or AVENA. This means that the oats are processed in a facility that only manufactures oats, so they have not been cross contaminated from other grains. ALL of Kimberley’s Own products have been tested in an outside laboratory and have under 5 ppm or parts per million of gluten. Thus making my products safe for celiacs

Some of the benefits of oats are but are not limited to are:

• High in soluble and insoluble fiber. The beta-glucans found in soluble fiber helps reduce the LDL (bad) cholesterol.
• Since oats scores low on the glycemic index, it assists in stabilizing your blood sugar and keeps you feeling satiated for a longer period of time.
• High concentration of protein.
• High concentrations of phyto-chemicals which are related to decreased risk of certain cancers.
• Increased bowel function due to the high fiber content.
• Weight Control – due to the low glycemic score and feeling of being satiated for longer periods of time, which may assist with weight loss.
• Good source of essential fatty acids
• Good source of vitamin E, thiamin, folic acid, biotin, pantothenic acid. Minerals include: zinc, selenium, copper, iron, manganese and magnesium.

Chia – Is high in calcium, magnesium, protein, iron and fiber. It holds fourteen times its weight in water, so it helps with the feeling of being full and cleansing the bowels for more effective digestion.

• An ancient super food cultivated by the Aztecs. It is also known as the ‘running food’ because of its densely packed nutrient qualities. It was used by ancient messengers who ran between villages by consuming just a handful of the tiny seeds.
• 30% of the oils in Chia are Omega 3 and 40% are Omega 6. Thus providing a great balance of the EFA’s (essential fatty acids) you need in your diet.
• They are available in black or white in colour and have the same benefits.

Amaranth – Aside from being a complete protein, (14grams per 100 grams) it’s also very high in the amino acid lysine which is uncommon for other grains.

• This small tiny seed has been cultivated in Central America for over 5000 years.
• Also high in fiber, iron, calcium, magnesium.

Hemp Hearts/ Shelled Hemp Seeds – Also known as a super food. It contains more essential amino acids than fish, meat or milk. It is also a rich source of protein.

• High in Vitamins A, C, & E, calcium, iron, phosphorus, magnesium, zinc
• Almost half its weight come from oil. Eighty percent of that comes from our essential fatty acids. It has more Omega 3 oil than any fish. It also contains Omega 6 and Omega –9 fatty acids
• High in fiber aiding in digestion.
• Can assist with increased and sustained energy levels, lower cholesterol and blood pressure, weight loss and is a natural blood sugar stabilizer.

Almonds – high in the GOOD fat – mono-saturated fats, which are associated with reducing the risk of heart disease

Pumpkin Seeds or Pepitas – A good source of protein iron, copper, zinc, magnesium, calcium, vitamin K, C, D, & E.

• Are long, flat, and dark green in colour.
• They also contain phytosterols which are associated with lowering cholesterol levels & preventing some cancers.

Sunflower Seeds – High in polyunsaturated oil, a healthy good fat. An excellent source of vitamin E and a good source of magnesium, selenium and thiamin

• They also contain phytosterols which are associated with lowering cholesterol levels preventing some cancers.

Organic Cinnamon – Is a natural food preservative! It also assists in stabilizing your blood sugar which is beneficial to those who are diabetic or for those who would like to keep their energy levels stable. It can also help reduce the bad cholesterol, LDL
Tibetan Goji berries or Lycium Barbarum – One of the powerhouses of antioxidants. This tiny berry is also the only fruit that contains protein. Other benefits include:

• High in Vitamin C & B as well as the minerals germanium, zinc, selenium, copper and iron.
• They are the richest source of carotenoids.
• In my opinion, Tibetian Goji berries are far superior to other sourced goji berries on the market.

Cranberries – Another powerful antioxidant which help to combat free radicals that can damage cell structure as well as DNA. It can also assist with UTI’s (urinary tract infections) and help prevent some types of cancers

Apricots are closely related to the peach & nectarine. Low in calories, this nutrient rich food is high in fiber, vitamin A, C and carotenes.

They are also high in potassium, iron, zinc and maganese.

• Beta carotene rich diets have lower incidences of cancer and high beta carotene levels prevent the build up of plaque in the arteries
